Who: Daryl Dixon
Where: Outside the school
What: After losing his brother in Atlanta and later the camp at the quarrel, Daryl reluctantly followed the rest of the group north after they were told it was safer there. The journey wasn't easy, and they lost a few along the way, and when they got there, there was no magical place, where the government was helping people survive. Instead, they found a school filled with other survivors, and Rick decided that was the best place for them. However, Daryl never did do well around new people.
It's a brisk morning and Daryl finds himself slipping out the front door of the school after eating a small bowl of oatmeal. His crossbow is over is shoulder and he scans the landscape. If they're stay at the school then he wants to earn his keep, and the best way to do that is the hunt. It's obvious they don't have a lot of food, or meat, and there are kids there. Kids need protein to grow, and while the meat he gets won't be hamburger or chicken, it'll hopefully help some.
He starts walking toward the woods, only stopping when he senses something - or something - behind him. Slowly, he turns, his crossbow raised.
"You followin' me?" he asks.

He slips outside of the school with his rifle slung over his shoulder; he never seems to go without it anymore. It is far too dangerous to leave the school or even to walk the halls without it, as one never seems to know when the walkers manage to find a lucky break in security.
It is nice to have sometime outside, it was colder inside of the school, and Hal is looking to do a little scouting for much needed food and other supplies. It is his job after all; sure, it meant canned hams or something resembling food from the many empty homes in this suburban sprawl.
He didn't know he was following Daryl, and he lifts his hands up in the air when the new comer points the crossbow at him. "Don't know, I was kind of wondering the same thing." It was a cheesy introduction, but it is some kind of way to break the ice.

When the other guy makes his comment about Daryl just stares for a moment before he lowers his crossbow. He's not meaning to scare anyone - it's just a habit of his.
"Ain't sure how that's possible," he says before he nods toward the line of trees. "Good huntin' out there?"

When Daryl asks him about hunting, Hal follows his line of sight towards the trees. "Nothing but squirrels, rabbits, raccoon, and the typical suburban wildlife along with packs of stray dogs." He isn't the expert hunter, but it would be nice to have something that isn't freeze dried or old jerky he looted from a gas station.
"I'm still trying to figure out the layout of the area, but we're going to need a lot more than just a few rabbits to keep everyone fed."

"I'm sure there's some deer 'round, too. They're just hiding from y'all, but I can track 'em," he said. "You can't depend on rabbits since those stray dogs are gonna end up eating all of 'em eventually."
He went silent then and looked around the school yard, taking in what was there. There was a large electrical pole knew one side of the building and he furrowed his brow.
"If we get some of that deer feed they sold at hardware stores we could attract some deer. They mostly eat during the early morning so we just gotta get to the roof and watch for 'em."

"We've got a football field, my dad talked about having people getting a garden together. I don't think the Wal-Marts and all the stores in the world have enough food to keep us here for good." Hal gave the guy the benefit of the doubt, and maybe it was one of the qualities he shared with his dad. At least Daryl seemed interested in helping.
He nodded his head. "We can see about getting a group together to do a supply run."

He was pretty sure it would be easy to find one. The government had promised to take care of all of them so people weren't going out to buy things. If the government promised something, most people believed them.
"Alright, sounds good. I'm gonna head out and see if I can find anythin'," he said as he adjusted his crossbow on his shoulder. "Ya wanna come with?"

Hal looked over at the field, the old high school was big and so were the grounds, so the place could at least provide them some much needed stability. "Could find some lumber and build a smoke house, you'd be surprised how long beef jerky would last."
"I'll come a long sure, I've never had a chance to come out this far before, and I'm wondering if there's any ponds or streams," suggested Hal, as he slipped his hand into his pocket to see about how much ammo he had on him.
"But, I know we're not too far from the bay, so if you're willing to risk eating some seafood or bagging a few ducks we can just head north a little," Hal continued with checking his rounds, and frowned. "Damn problem with a gun, there's always more of them no matter how much spare ammo you got in your pockets."
